About MedTime Bedtime Stories
Hello! It's wonderful that you're keen to help your little one(s) find calm before bed. MedTime bedtime stories work by gently introducing children to relaxation techniques and simple ways to release both mental and physical stress. Here’s how these stories help...
Breathwork
Gentle breathwork exercises, like taking "balloon breaths," teach children to regulate their nervous system. By focusing on their breath, they can calm their minds and bodies, shifting from an excited state to a more relaxed one. This conscious control over their breathing not only reduces feelings of anxiety and restlessness before bed but also increases oxygen flow, helping them drift off to sleep more easily and experience deeper, more restorative rest.
Meditation
Children's bedtime meditation stories create a peaceful mental space, helping them unwind from the day's excitement and worries. Through guided imagery and simple visualizations, meditation encourages focus and mindfulness, reducing the mental chatter that often keeps young minds awake. This practice helps children release tension, cultivate a sense of calm, and develop emotional regulation skills, leading to a smoother transition into sleep and the ability to self-soothe if they wake during the night.
Somatic Exercises
Somatic exercises, such as gentle stretches, progressive muscle relaxation, or simply noticing sensations in their body, help children become more aware of their physical state. By gently releasing stored tension in their muscles and learning to differentiate between relaxed and tense states, children can consciously let go of physical discomfort that might be preventing sleep. This body awareness fosters a sense of safety and comfort within their own skin, promoting a deeper state of relaxation essential for falling asleep quickly and staying asleep soundly.
Child-led Stories
MedTime bedtime stories put the child at the centre of the story and invite imagination. Directives are unprescribed, meaning children can interpret characters and scenes however comes to mind, using their own creativity and experiences to visualise, rather than being told how to imagine. Stories are created with children's interests in mind and aim to generate intrigue and delight without too much excitement! We love to hear requests for story ideas, so if your little one has a suggestion, please do let us know!
